This Twitter post preview shows your text as a post in the timeline, counted the way X counts it against 280 characters. Paste a draft into the editor and it renders beside it as you type, with up to four images paged one at a time.
A post inside 280 characters is not truncated in the timeline, which is why this preview draws no “show more” line: the whole thing is what people see. Past 280 a free account cannot post at all. X Premium raises the ceiling to 25,000 and collapses the long ones behind a Show more link instead.
Two of X's counting rules make its own number differ from a plain character count. A link always costs 23 characters however long the URL is, because X rewrites every link through its own shortener. And Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters cost two. This tool counts plainly, so read a draft that lands near 280 as approximate.

Why does my count differ from X's own counter?
X weights links at 23 characters and CJK characters at two. This preview counts plainly, so the two agree on ordinary Latin text and diverge on those.
