The Bluesky character limit is 300 characters per post. Bluesky counts graphemes rather than the underlying character codes, so this page counts the same way: a family emoji, a flag or a letter with an accent counts as one, even though each is stored as several characters underneath.
That distinction matters on a post full of emoji. A counter measuring code points would report a post of composite emoji as several times longer than Bluesky does, and would tell you to cut text that would have posted fine.
Bluesky also applies a second, larger limit of 3,000 bytes to the same text. Ordinary posts never come near it — 300 graphemes of Latin text is around 300 bytes — and only text made almost entirely of emoji or non-Latin script can reach the byte ceiling before the grapheme one.
Links count toward the limit at their visible length. Bluesky stores a link as a facet over the text, so shortening the visible label shortens what counts. There is no paid tier that raises the 300, and threading a reply onto your own post is the way longer thoughts are published.
