What to know before you paste it

- It is a real character, not nothing. It draws as blank space in the app and on the web; on a device whose fonts do not have it, a line can show an empty box.

They need the help because Instagram trims whitespace when it saves a caption, and a blank line is whitespace. A caption written as four short paragraphs arrives in the feed as one block, which is the single most common complaint about writing captions in the app. The character this tool inserts is a blank braille pattern: printable enough that the trimmer keeps the line, blank enough that nobody sees it. A zero-width space does not work — as far as the trimmer is concerned there is still nothing on the line.
The count under the result measures the caption Instagram will receive, invisible characters included, against 2,200. The other number worth knowing is much smaller: about the first 125 characters show in the feed before “… more”, so the spacing you are protecting mostly matters to the people who tapped to read on — and the opening line still has to earn that tap.
