Sprout Social charges per seat. That one fact decides whether it is worth keeping: at $199 a seat, three people who need the shared inbox cost $597 a month, and the third person costs the same as the first even if they only ever leave comments on drafts.

If you are here, you have probably already done that arithmetic. So this page skips the part where we tell you Sprout is expensive and gets to what thirteen realistic replacements actually cost, with every price read off the vendor’s own page and dated.

The short version, by the shape of the business rather than by rank:

  • A business where nobody is actually going to write the posts: PostPost.ai, which is us, and which is a different kind of tool rather than a cheaper Sprout.
  • A team that wants Sprout’s shape without per-seat billing: Sendible, $35 a month with unlimited users.
  • A team that lives in the inbox and replies all day: Agorapulse, or Statusbrew if you want the inbox on the entry plan.
  • An agency billing ten clients: SocialPilot at $200, or Sendible Elite at $299.
  • The cheapest thing that still works: SocialBee at $24, or Zoho Social at €10.

Full disclosure: we make PostPost.ai. We are one of the thirteen, we say where each of the other twelve beats us, and every number below is checkable against the screenshots.

Quick comparison

Tool Entry price Priced per Extra people cost Inbox included from Best for

Sendible $35/mo Workspace Nothing — unlimited users $35, the entry plan Sprout’s shape without per-seat billing
Agorapulse €79/user/mo User €79 each €79, the entry plan Social customer care
Hootsuite $99/seat/mo Seat $99 each $99, the entry plan A like-for-like enterprise swap
Buffer $6/channel/mo Channel Doubles the rate on every channel Not included Downshifting to pure publishing
Later $25/mo Social set $5 per extra user $50, the Growth plan Instagram-first planning
Metricool $20/mo Brand Team management from $53 Not its strength Reporting depth per dollar
SocialPilot $20/mo Social account $5/user, client seats free $40, the Standard plan Agency value for money
Planable $33/mo Workspace Nothing — unlimited users $7.50/workspace add-on Client approval before anything ships
Statusbrew $69/mo User + profiles $129 for three users $69, the entry plan An inbox-first agency tool
Vista Social $64/mo Profile count Seats come in bundles of 2, 4, 8 $64, the entry plan Agencies that want profiles in bulk
SocialBee $24/mo Profile count Third user needs Pro, $82 Not itemised by tier The cheapest workable scheduler
Zoho Social €10/mo Brand €10 per member €40, the Premium plan The cheapest tool that is still a suite
Sprout Social $79/seat/mo Seat $79–399 each $199, the Standard plan Listening, sentiment, enterprise reporting

Rows are in the same order as the entries further down, because entry prices are not comparable across axes — $6 a channel and $24 a month answer different questions. The filled-in baskets further down are the comparable numbers.

Prices as printed on each vendor’s own pricing page: Sprout, Sendible, Agorapulse, Statusbrew, Vista Social, SocialBee and Zoho Social on 31 August 2026; Buffer, Later, Metricool, SocialPilot, Planable and Hootsuite on 28 August 2026. Where a vendor shows an annual and a monthly rate, the table takes the one printed largest and the entry below gives both.

One caveat, stated once. Agorapulse and Zoho Social geolocate their pricing pages and served us euros with no way to switch, so both are quoted in euros. We would rather print a number a reader can verify on the same page than convert one they cannot.

What Sprout Social costs in 2026

Sprout Social's pricing page: Standard at $199 per seat per month, with the consolidated inbox starting on that tier

Four published tiers, all per seat. Essentials is the only one that prints two rates; the other three are printed as single figures:

Plan Price Social profiles The thing it adds
Essentials $79 per seat/mo ($99 billed monthly) 5 Publishing, optimal send times, post-level reporting, Trellis AI
Standard $199 per seat/mo 5 The consolidated inbox, keyword and location monitoring, review management
Professional $299 per seat/mo Unlimited Message tagging, competitor and paid insights, Enhance Post by AI Assist
Advanced $399 per seat/mo Unlimited Sentiment in the inbox, the API and helpdesk integrations, team productivity reports

Two details in that table do most of the work.

Essentials, the new $79 tier, has no inbox. It is a publishing plan. The consolidated inbox — the feature most people mean when they say “Sprout” — starts at Standard, which is $199 a seat. If you signed up for Essentials to save money and then found you could not answer a comment, that is why.

Every plan is per seat, and the 100 AI agent credits are per seat too. There is no viewer tier, no free approver, no unlimited-users plan. A designer who logs in twice a month to check a carousel is a full seat.

Premium Analytics and Listening are add-ons on top of Standard and up, priced by demo rather than published, so any total you calculate from the table is a floor. There is a 30-day free trial with no card.

Why teams leave

Four reasons show up over and over, and they are not the same reason.

The second and third person. Per-seat pricing prices collaboration itself. Most teams respond by sharing one login, which is the behaviour the pricing model quietly trains and the thing every security policy forbids.

Paying enterprise rates for a fraction of the surface. Listening, sentiment analysis, competitive benchmarking, employee advocacy, helpdesk integration — Sprout builds for organisations that need all of it. A twelve-person business needs the calendar and the inbox, and pays for the rest.

The bill grows with the team, not with the work. Adding a fourth channel is free on Professional. Adding a fourth person is $299. That is backwards from how a small business actually grows.

None of it writes the posts. This is the reason that has changed most since 2024. Sprout’s AI drafts and rephrases inside a composer you are already sitting in front of. It does not know your services, your prices or your customers, so the blank calendar stays blank until somebody fills it.

How we picked

We took every tool named as a Sprout alternative across the pages currently ranking for this search — twenty-five of them — and kept the thirteen that pass four rules:

  1. It has to be cheaper than Sprout for a team, not just at the entry price for one person.
  2. Its price has to be published, in a currency we can quote, with no “contact sales” as the entry point.
  3. We have to be able to name where it beats us. Every entry below has that line.
  4. It has to publish through the networks’ official APIs. No scraping, no browser automation — an account ban is not a saving.

Prices were read off the vendors’ own pricing pages, screenshot and dated. Nothing here comes from a review site’s summary table, because those are where stale prices go to live forever. What we dropped, and why, is at the end.

The thirteen alternatives

Ordered by what kind of problem each one solves, not by preference.

1. PostPost.ai

Best for: a business where the honest answer to “who writes the posts” is “nobody, that’s the problem”.

Wrong for: anyone who wants a like-for-like Sprout replacement. If your problem is that Sprout costs too much for the same job, Sendible and Agorapulse are your shortlist, not this.

Price: Business $59/mo ($590/yr) for one brand. Pro $149/mo for three brands. Studio $299/mo for ten. Agency is custom with no brand cap. Seats are unlimited on every plan, and the inbox, analytics and all nine channels are on the entry plan — Instagram, Facebook, Threads, X, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Telegram and Google Business Profile. There is a 7-day trial.

Where it wins. Every other tool on this page starts with an empty calendar and asks you to fill it. This one starts with your website: it reads the site, builds a brand kit from what the site actually claims — services, prices, audience, tone, colours, logo — and writes a week of posts against that, per channel, with the images made to match.

A week of generated posts in PostPost.ai with one draft open for review and approval
A PostPost.ai brand kit read from a website: logo, colour palette, both fonts and written design rules

Carousels and video come from a template library with a picker that chooses the layout, rather than from an open-ended image prompt, and your logo is composited onto the result instead of being described to a model and mangled. Comments and DMs land in one inbox on every plan.

The PostPost.ai inbox with Comments and Messages as separate tabs

Where it ends. No social listening, no sentiment analysis, no review management — if you need to monitor what the internet says about your brand, Sprout genuinely earns its money and this does not do it. There is no client approval chain either: nothing publishes without you pressing approve, but there is no “send to the client for sign-off” workflow, which is what Planable below is built for. DMs reach the inbox from Facebook and Instagram only, because LinkedIn’s messaging API is closed to third parties and TikTok has no inbox API at all — a limit of the platforms, not of the plan you are on. And a website is a hard requirement: with no site there is nothing to read.

Try it on your own website: paste your URL and read the week it writes.

“We were spending 4–5 hours a week on Instagram posts alone. I had to employ someone — separate images, separate text, then load it into every channel. Now it takes me 15 minutes for the whole week.” — 2VP.Uk, design and build contractor, London

“In 10 minutes I did a week of posts — not just Instagram, but Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube and Google Business Profile.” — Selection.works, bespoke manufacturer, London

“I was paying an assistant to run our Instagram and Facebook, and still had to check the work. Now I give the idea and the focus, the system makes it, and I press approve.” — AtoZ Design and Glass, design and glazing

2. Sendible

Best for: the team that wants what Sprout does, minus the per-seat bill.

Price: Core $35/mo (1 workspace, 6 profiles), Plus $99 (3 workspaces, 18 profiles), Premium $199 (7 workspaces, 42 profiles), Elite $299 (15 workspaces, 90 profiles), Enterprise $750 (50 workspaces, 300 profiles). Yearly saves 15%. 14-day trial, no card.

“Unlimited users on all plans” is its own headline, and it is the most direct answer to Sprout’s model on this list. Monitoring and replying are on the $35 plan — the thing Sprout gates at $199 — and assignment and approvals arrive at $99. Six profiles on Core is tight, though: one client with Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, TikTok and YouTube uses all six. No listening product, and reporting stops short of Sprout’s competitive benchmarking.

Sendible's pricing page: Core at $35 a month, headlined "Unlimited users on all plans"

3. Agorapulse

Best for: teams whose real work is answering people, not publishing.

Price: Standard €79/user/mo, Professional €119, Advanced €149, all billed annually, all with 10 social profiles; extra profiles €10. Custom is quoted. 30-day trial, no card.

The inbox is the product and it is on the entry plan: all messages and organic comments in one place, with ad-comment and post-level moderation from Professional, saved replies and moderation rules from Advanced. It is the closest thing here to Sprout’s social-customer-care half at roughly a third of the per-seat price. But it is still per user, so it has Sprout’s problem in milder form — three people is €237 a month — and multi-step approval is Custom-tier only.

Agorapulse's pricing page: Standard at 79 euros per user per month with 10 social profiles

4. Hootsuite

Best for: an organisation that wants the like-for-like swap with the budget already approved.

Price: $99 / $199 / $399 per user per month. Content approval appears only on Advanced, so a team that needs sign-off is at $399 a head. The pricing page renders in local currency; these figures come from Hootsuite’s own pricing FAQ.

Breadth is the argument: fifteen years of integrations, a mature analytics suite, listening as an add-on, and the boring-but-real advantage that your next hire has probably used it. The problem is that it repeats the exact model you are leaving. Three people on Advanced is $1,197 a month, which is more than Sprout Standard for three, and you have moved sideways.

Hootsuite's pricing page: three tiers priced per user per month, with content approval on Advanced

5. Buffer

Best for: admitting you only wanted a scheduler.

Price: $6 per channel per month on Essentials, $12 on Team ($5 and $10 annually). Free and Essentials are one user with no option to pay for a second; unlimited team members start on Team.

It is the cleanest, fastest, most reliable queue in the category. If your Sprout usage was really just “put this out on Thursday”, five channels is $30 a month and you are done in an afternoon. There is no real inbox, analytics are thin, and the per-channel axis punishes the same person Sprout was punishing: the second user doubles the rate on every channel you own, because Essentials cannot hold two people at all.

Buffer's pricing page: per-channel pricing, one user on Essentials and unlimited team members on Team

6. Later

Best for: Instagram-first businesses that plan visually.

Price: $25 / $50 / $110 a month ($18.75 / $37.50 / $82.50 annually) for 1, 2 and 6 social sets, with 1, 2 and 4 users; extra user $5. The inbox and approvals start on Growth, the $50 plan.

The visual planner and the link-in-bio are genuinely good, and for a single brand whose life is Instagram it is pleasant to use in a way most of this list is not. Two things to know before you buy: X publishing and analytics were removed in August 2025, so it is no longer a full-coverage tool, and the “social set” unit means a second brand costs a tier, not an add-on.

Later's pricing page: social sets, profile counts and user counts for each of the three plans

7. Metricool

Best for: getting real reporting for very little money.

Price: Starter from $20/mo billed annually ($25 monthly) for 5 brands; Advanced from $53/mo annually ($67 monthly) for 15. Team and client management, and approvals, start at Advanced.

Per dollar it has the best analytics here — competitor tracking, ad performance and organic in one report, with historical data most tools at this price do not keep. Fifteen brands for $53 is remarkable if reporting is what you need. Publishing and the inbox are the weaker half, and anything involving a second person sits behind Advanced. It is a measurement tool that also posts.

Metricool's pricing page: Starter with 5 brands and Advanced with 15, where team management begins

8. SocialPilot

Best for: an agency that wants the most account coverage per dollar.

Price: $20 / $40 / $100 / $200 a month for Professional, Standard, Premium and Agency, with 5 / 10 / 20 / 40 social accounts and 1 / 3 / 6 / unlimited users. Extra account $4, extra user $5, 15% off annually. Inbox and approvals from Standard; client seats from Premium and free.

Forty social accounts and unlimited users for $200 is the best raw coverage-per-dollar on this page, and free client seats keep the people you report to off the invoice. Bulk scheduling is strong. The interface shows its age next to Planable or Later, analytics are competent rather than deep, and the AI assistant is a text helper with no knowledge of the brand behind it.

SocialPilot's pricing page: social accounts and user counts per plan, with free client seats from Premium

9. Planable

Best for: work that has to be approved by somebody else before it ships.

Price: Basic $33 and Pro $49 per workspace per month, unlimited users on every plan. Analytics is a $12 per-workspace add-on and the social inbox $7.50, so a fully-equipped Basic workspace is $52.50.

The approval workflow is the best in this list and the reason to choose it: a client sees the post as it will look, comments in place, approves, and nothing publishes before they do. Unlimited users means the client, their boss and their lawyer cost nothing. This is the feature we do not have, and if it is your bottleneck Planable beats us outright. The add-on model bites at scale, and approval is not content — somebody still has to write the post.

Planable's pricing page: $33 and $49 per workspace with unlimited users on every plan

10. Statusbrew

Best for: an agency that wants the inbox, not the seat licence.

Price: Lite $69/mo, Standard $129, Premium $229, all billed annually, with 1, 3 and 6 users and 5, 10 and 15 social profiles; Enterprise is custom with unlimited users and profiles. The agency plan starts from $49 per client per month. 14-day trial, no card.

The all-in-one social inbox is on the $69 entry plan, and so is hiding organic comments on Facebook and Instagram — a real moderation feature most of this list lacks. Premium adds AI sentiment, assignment and approval workflows, SLA reporting, competitor benchmarking and social and web listening, which makes it the closest thing here to Sprout Advanced at a quarter of the price for six people. It is still priced partly by user, and $69 for one seat and five profiles is the highest entry price on this page.

Statusbrew's pricing page: the all-in-one social inbox included on the $69 Lite plan

11. Vista Social

Best for: agencies that need many profiles and can live with seats in bundles.

Price: Professional $64/mo for 2 users ($79 monthly), Advanced $120 for 4 users ($149 monthly), Scale $304 for 8 users ($349 monthly), with 15, 30 and 70 social profiles. Enterprise is custom. 14-day trial, no card.

Seventy profiles and eight users for $304 is competitive with anything here, the review-management and listening features are unusually complete for the price, and DM contact limits are published rather than hidden. Two catches worth knowing: seats come in fixed bundles, so a third person on Professional means jumping to Advanced and nearly doubling the bill, and X publishing is a paid add-on rather than part of the plan.

Vista Social's pricing page: seats sold in fixed bundles of 2, 4 and 8 users

12. SocialBee

Best for: one person who wants a queue that refills itself.

Price: Bootstrap $24/mo, Accelerate $40, Pro $82, all billed annually (16% off monthly), with up to 5, 10 and 25 profiles. Bootstrap and Accelerate are one user; Pro is three users and five workspaces. 14-day trial, no card, 30-day money-back.

The content-category system is the distinctive thing: you sort posts into evergreen buckets and it recycles them on a schedule, which is the closest anything here comes to keeping a calendar full without new work each week. Unlimited AI content generation is on every tier. But the first two tiers are single-user, the post approval system starts at Accelerate, and the social inbox exists as a product feature without being itemised per tier on the pricing page.

SocialBee's pricing page: one user and one workspace on both Bootstrap and Accelerate

13. Zoho Social

Best for: the cheapest thing on this page that is still a suite.

Price: Free €0, Standard €10/mo, Professional €30, Premium €40, all billed annually, all with one brand; Standard and Professional include one team member, Premium three. Extra brands €14.50–19.50 each, extra members €10 each. Agency plans start at 10 brands and 5 members. 15-day all-access trial, no card. Prices render in local currency; these are the euro figures.

At €10 a month it is the cheapest real tool here, and if you are already inside Zoho’s suite the CRM and Desk integrations on Premium are worth more than anything else on this list. The catch is the shape: one brand, one member, and the inbox and content approvals both start at Premium. A team of three on one brand is €40 — still cheap — but a second brand is an add-on rather than a tier.

Zoho Social's pricing page: the inbox and content approvals appear only on the Premium plan

What three people actually cost

The headline price is per seat, per channel, per workspace, per brand or per profile depending on the tool, so the only comparison that means anything is a filled-in basket. Three of them, each with the inbox included where the vendor sells one, because a team that cannot answer a comment is not really a team.

Hootsuite Advanced $1,197 3 × $399, the tier where approval lives

SocialBee and Zoho Social have separate agency tiers that fit this shape; neither publishes a figure on the page we could load, so they are left out of this table rather than guessed at.

Read the three tables together and the pattern is not “everything is cheaper than Sprout”. It is that Sprout charges for people and almost nobody else does. The gap between $597 and $35 is not a discount, it is a different pricing philosophy.

The bill is not the cost

Here is the part the tables cannot show, and the reason a $59 plan can be better value than a $24 one.

Every tool above except one hands you an empty calendar. The month still has to be planned, twelve posts still have to be written, twelve images still have to be made, each one still has to be cut to a different aspect ratio per channel, and each caption still has to be adapted so the LinkedIn version does not read like the TikTok one. That work does not disappear because the software is cheap. It moves onto somebody’s Tuesday.

Price the Tuesday. A freelancer running social media charges $14 to $150 an hour with the median near $20, and keeping two channels active that way commonly runs $400 to $2,000 a month. A social media manager on US payroll costs $7,500 to $11,400 a month once employer benefit costs are counted, with office, software and recruiting on top of that. An agency retainer runs from $500 to $25,000. Those are the real alternatives to any line in the tables above, and every one of them is larger than the software by an order of magnitude or more.

Which is why the number that matters here is not $24 or $59 or $597. It is the one our customer gave: 4–5 hours a week became 15 minutes. Four and a half hours a week is about nineteen hours a month; at the freelance median that is roughly $390 a month of somebody’s time, and at the top of the range it is thousands. Against that, the difference between the cheapest tool on this page and the most expensive is noise.

So the honest way to choose is to ask what you are buying:

  • If you have someone who writes the posts and you need a cheaper place to put them, buy the cheapest tool that has an inbox. That is Sendible at $35 or SocialPilot at $40, and you should stop reading.
  • If the posts are not getting written, no scheduler at any price fixes that, and the tool that produces the week is worth more than the $20 you saved on the one that stores it.

What you give up leaving Sprout

Being fair about this is the difference between a comparison and an advert.

Social listening and sentiment. Sprout’s listening product, and sentiment inside the inbox on Advanced, have no equal at these prices. Statusbrew Premium and Agorapulse come closest; ours does not exist at all.

Review management. Sprout handles reviews from Standard. Vista Social is the only tool here that really matches it — we let you store customer reviews so posts can quote them, which is a different thing entirely.

Enterprise plumbing. SSO, custom roles, an API, helpdesk integrations, historical import, compliance, a named CSM. Sendible Enterprise, Statusbrew Enterprise and Hootsuite Enterprise get part of the way; most of this list does not try.

Competitive benchmarking. Sprout Professional’s competitor, tag and paid insights are genuinely deep. Metricool and Statusbrew are the closest at a fraction of the price, and neither is as deep.

If two or more of those are load-bearing for you, the answer to “should I leave Sprout” may well be no. That is a legitimate outcome of reading this page.

Picking one

  • Nobody is going to write the posts. PostPost.ai. That is the case it was built for.
  • You want Sprout’s shape and none of its bill. Sendible.
  • Your day is the inbox. Agorapulse, or Statusbrew if you want it on the entry plan.
  • A client has to approve everything. Planable.
  • You bill ten clients and want the most accounts per dollar. SocialPilot.
  • You need many profiles and few seats. Vista Social.
  • You need the reporting and little else. Metricool.
  • You want the queue to refill itself. SocialBee.
  • Instagram is the whole business. Later.
  • You only ever wanted a queue. Buffer.
  • You are already inside Zoho. Zoho Social.
  • The budget is approved and you want the safe institutional swap. Hootsuite.

What we left out, and why

Of the twenty-five tools named across the pages ranking for this search, twelve did not make the list.

Sprinklr, Brandwatch, Meltwater, Emplifi, Khoros. Up-market from Sprout, not down. They appear on most “Sprout alternatives” lists because they are competitors, not because they are cheaper.

Loomly, Social Champ, Sociality.io, Simplified, Viraly, ContentStudio, Pallyy, Crowbert. All competent, none adding an axis the thirteen above do not already cover.

Iconosquare, Dash Social, Brand24. Single-purpose — Instagram analytics, visual social, monitoring. Good at the one thing, not a Sprout replacement.

Publer. A real contender, and we covered it properly in our Buffer alternatives comparison; it is a per-account tool aimed at solo operators rather than at teams leaving Sprout.

FAQ

What is better than Sprout Social? Nothing is better at everything — Sprout is genuinely strong at listening, sentiment and enterprise reporting. For a small team, Sendible is better value ($35 a month with unlimited users against $199 a seat), Planable is better at client approval, Metricool is better at reporting per dollar, Statusbrew comes closest to Sprout’s own feature set for a fraction of the price, and PostPost.ai is better if the problem is that the posts do not exist yet.

Is there a free version of Sprout Social? No. There is a 30-day free trial with no card required, and the cheapest paid plan is Essentials at $79 per seat per month billed annually, or $99 billed monthly.

Does Sprout Social have a cheaper plan than Standard? Yes, Essentials at $79 per seat annually. Check what you need first: Essentials is publishing only, and the consolidated inbox starts at Standard, $199 a seat.

What are some free apps similar to Sprout? Buffer, Zoho Social and Planable all have free tiers, and all three are effectively single-operator plans with small caps. Free plans in this category are one-person plans; the moment a second person needs access, every tool on this page starts charging, and what differs is how much.

What is better, Hootsuite or Sprout Social? They are the same shape and the same pricing model. Hootsuite is cheaper per seat ($99 against $199 for the tier most teams need) and broader in integrations; Sprout is stronger in reporting and listening and its inbox is better regarded. If per-seat pricing is why you are leaving Sprout, Hootsuite does not solve it.

Which alternatives include the inbox at the entry price? Sendible ($35), SocialPilot Standard ($40), Statusbrew ($69), Agorapulse (€79 a user), Hootsuite ($99 a seat) and PostPost.ai ($59). Later needs Growth at $50, Zoho needs Premium at €40, Planable needs a $7.50 add-on, Buffer has no real inbox at any tier, and SocialBee has one but does not itemise it by tier.

Can I keep my scheduled posts when I switch? Not automatically anywhere. There is no import path between these tools for queued content, so the practical move is to let Sprout’s queue drain while you build the next month in the new tool, then cancel. Export your analytics history before you cancel — that you do not get back.

Try it on your own website

If the reason you are shopping is that Sprout costs $199 a seat for a job three people share, buy the cheapest thing here with an inbox and be happy.

If the reason is that the calendar keeps being empty, that is a different purchase. Paste your website address into PostPost.ai and read the week it writes for your business — the brand kit, the plan and the images all come from your own site. Business is $59 a month for one brand with unlimited seats, and there is a 7-day trial.
